David Anderson – 2013 Student Advisory Council Representative, Stateside
David was born in Alexandria, Virginia, but has spent most of his life as a resident of Maryland. He is pleased to have been raised in a diverse and ever-changing political environment. Given so many unique opportunities, he has explored a variety of career paths, which have allowed him to see the world through differing views and ideologies.
David currently lives in Frederick, Maryland, within earshot of "Reveille" and "Taps" from his local community base, USAG - Fort Detrick. After completing two years at Frederick Community College (FCC) and receiving his Associate of Arts in International Business, David transferred to University of Maryland University College (UMUC). He is working toward his Bachelor of Science in Global Business and Public Policy.
Past work responsibilities have allowed David to develop a wide range of skills. He has worked as a thoroughbred hot-walker at Maryland racetracks, a painter, a historic homes preservationist, a forensic accountant, and a music producer. Each opportunity allowed him to fulfill personal goals and participate in team challenges. David is now working at FCC as the staff carpenter while he continues his education.
David’s proudest achievements include the following:
- Graduating from FCC with high honors while working full-time
- Being elected president of FCC’s Global Business Simulation
- Serving as a representative on the UMUC Student Advisory Council
- Developing and directing a Grammy-nominated production team
David’s future goals, through education, are to participate in policy crafting in hopes of facilitating positive changes in our global community. He is dedicated to bringing his experiences as a nontraditional student to the UMUC student body and assisting others in achieving their goals.
