Joey A. Gibbons – 2013-14 Student Advisory Council Representative, Europe

Biography

Joey A. GibbonsJoey A. Gibbons was born in Sarasota, Florida. He joined the U.S. Army in 1980. He served more than 26 years in positions of increasing responsibility, both in the United States and overseas, cumulating as the senior enlisted advisor for the Force Health Protection Office at the Europe Regional Medical Command. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and is a recipient of the Order of Medical Merit. He works for the Installation Management Command-Europe in Heidelberg, Germany, as a current operations specialist.

Gibbons completed a General Studies Associate of Arts degree from University of Maryland University College in 2002 and a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies from UMUC in 2004. In 2006 Gibbons earned a Master of Human Relations degree from the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from the Army Management Staff College, Civilian Education System (CES) Intermediate Course in 2009 and the CES Advanced Course in 2010. In 2012 Gibbons completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from UMUC, and he is currently pursuing an additional (his third) bachelor's degree from UMUC, in Communications.  

Gibbons is an active community and university volunteer, serving in the following roles:

  • Coach, UMUC Coaching Undergraduates for Success and Persistence (CUSP) program
  • Instructor, American Red Cross
  • Former president and current member-at-large, American European Racquetball Association

Gibbons enjoys helping people, and as an advocate for the student body, he serves on the UMUC Student Advisory Council.
