Biography

Matt Williams – 2014 UMUC Student Advisory Council MemberTechnical Sergeant Matt Williams was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and raised in Savannah, Georgia. He lives in Maryland with his wife and son. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 2001 as a cryptologic linguist. He has completed four deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and is currently serving as the squadron resource advisor/financial manager of his unit, stationed in Maryland. Additionally, he is the deputy noncommissioned officer in charge of the commander's support staff.

Williams earned an Associate in Applied Science in Intelligence Studies and Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. He also earned two Associate of Arts degrees in Turkish and Serbian/Croatian from the Defense Language Institute. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Marketing at University of Maryland University College.

Williams's dedication to his education was demonstrated when he earned a position on the dean's list while serving during his deployment to Afghanistan. His additional military duties have included linguistic dictation, translation, recitation, and interpretation and serving as flight chief, section leader, and lead liaison officer for his unit. He also served in the following volunteer roles:

  • President, Unit Advisory Council 
  • President, Unit Booster Club

Williams's experience on numerous action groups and boards contributed to his selection as a member of the UMUC Student Advisory Council and his appointment as its secretary.
