Join University of Maryland University College (UMUC) faculty, students, staff, and friends for a lecture and reception in honor of the dedication of the new university sculpture. Distinguished speaker Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, president of Bennett College for Women, will unveil the sculpture, created by renowned Maryland artist Phillip Ratner.UMUC commissioned the sculpture to celebrate the university’s commitment to accessible education for adult students worldwide.

Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole is a well-known author, scholar, educational leader, and activist for social and economic justice. Her distinguished career as a college and university professor and administrator spans three decades, and she was the first African American woman to serve as president of Spelman College.
