MODERNISM: James Hilleary and Color
Join the UMUC community for Modernism: James Hilleary and Color. James Hilleary is a Maryland-based abstract colorist whose geographical proximity to Washington, D.C., and artistic style propelled him into a larger group of Washington Color School painters during the late 1950s and the 1960s. A Renaissance man with deep knowledge of architecture and music, Hilleary is best known for his commitment to creating harmonious, expertly executed canvases in variations of a signature style.
This exhibition features approximately 30 works in various sizes from the past 50 years, including a selection of Hilleary's more private drawings and experimental sculpture, as well as, paintings from each of his signature series: Variations, Reflections, Petals, and Striae.
