Celebrating a Legacy
Highlights from the Doris Patz Collection of Maryland Artists
THE DORIS PATZ COLLECTION OF MARYLAND ARTISTS AT
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND UNIVERSITY COLLEGE (UMUC)
Doris Patz was instrumental in UMUC’s acquisition—primarily through donations— of works of art by established and emerging Maryland artists. She became involved with UMUC at the request of Chancellor T. Benjamin Massey's wife, Bylee Massey. Collectively, they laid the foundation for UMUC’s art collection and the establishment
of its Arts Program. In 2002, the university recognized Patz by naming the collection that signified her work the "Doris Patz Collection of Maryland Artists."
This exhibit is a tribute to Patz and her family. It highlights works from the collection by Aaron Sopher, W. Reginald Watkins, Gladys Goldstein, Grace Hartigan, and many others.
