University of Maryland University College (UMUC) now holds undergraduate classes at the Coast Guard Yard at Curtis Bay in Baltimore, Maryland, for active-duty Coast Guard servicemembers and Coast Guard civilians. This site is on a military installation.
From the South: From I-95 North toward Baltimore, take exit 49A to merge onto I-695 East toward Glen Burnie. Take Exit 1 for State Highway 172/Hawkins Point Road toward Pennington Avenue/Fort Smallwood Road. Turn right at Quarantine Road. Turn right at Hawkins Point Road/MD 173. Coast Guard Yard at Curtis Bay will be on your left.
From the North: From I-95 South, make a slight left at I-895 South, then look for signs for I-895 S/Annapolis. Take Exit 8A for Shell Road. Merge onto Frankfurst Avenue. Make a slight right at Shell Road. Turn right at East Patapsco Avenue. Turn left at MD 173/Pennington Avenue. Coast Guard Yard at Curtis Bay will be on your right.

Members of the military and the civilian community with base access may take placement tests at this location for writing and math courses. Please call to schedule an appointment.

Proper military ID is required for base access. Visitors who do not have a military ID must go to the Pass Office. Access is only granted to visitors if they have been given authority by the Pass Office. Those with military IDs are allowed to bring guests on base; guests must present a valid photo ID.
Due to recent conditions of heightened security, civilian students taking UMUC classes on military bases may be required to complete a waiver in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act permitting UMUC to provide personal information (such as Social Security Number, address, and telephone number) to the military administration. You may find the FERPA waiver form online.
