Classes and Services

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) offers undergraduate classes and student services on Fort Meade in Anne Arundel County. This site is located on a military installation. Please call this location to receive information on base access. In some instances, a FERPA Release Form may be required.

Directions and Parking

Military and government ID card holders whose vehicles have a DoD decal can take the Baltimore/Washington Parkway (Route 295), exit onto Route 32 east and travel for about two miles. Follow signs to Fort Meade/Mapes Road, exiting right off Route 32 and going through two traffic circles. Enter Fort Meade and turn right onto Zimborski Avenue. The UMUC Fort Meade office is located in the first building on the right, the Education Services Building (Building 8601), in room 112.

All others, take Route 175 to Reece Road. Follow signs to the main gate and Visitors' Control Center. Follow Reece Road to Cooper Avenue and turn left. At Mapes Road, turn right. Turn left on Zimborski Avenue. The UMUC Office is located in the first building on the right, the Education Services Building, #8601, room 112.

Please note there is a new classroom location. Beginning Fall 2010, classes will be held at Meade High School, which is open to the public and accessible via Route 175. From the Baltimore/Washington Parkway, take Route 175 east. The entrance to Meade High School is about 1.1 miles on the right. Call 301-621-9882 or 410-551-0431 for further information.

Advising

Advising is available at Fort Meade on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 301-621-9882 or 410-551-0431 for an appointment.

Library Services

At the Academic Center at Largo, UMUC librarians are available Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Room 1105. UMUC staff members are also available during selected hours at McKeldin Library at College Park (UMCP campus). At either location, you can access the online catalog of the University System of Maryland (USM), more than 100 databases (over 50 of which provide full text journal and newspaper articles), and tutorials on how to do research. Other Important Information

Security and Civilian Waiver Information. If you do not have a military ID, call 301-621-9882 or 410-551-0431 for information on base entry. Due to recent conditions of heightened security, civilian students taking UMUC classes on military bases may be required to complete a waiver in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) permitting UMUC to provide personal information (i.e., Social Security number, address, and telephone number) to the military administration. You may find the FERPA waiver form online.

National Test Center

Wednesday—Friday: 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

UMUC manages the National Test Center offering computerized CLEP and DSST testing on a walk in basis to the military and civilian community with a NSA Campus Access Badge. DSST Public Speaking is now available by appointment only. Please send a request for an appointment to, ntc@umuc.edu
