Patuxent River Naval Air Station

Classes and Services

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) offers undergraduate classes and student services at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in St. Mary’s County. This site is located on a military installation. Please call this location to receive information on base access. In some instances, a FERPA waiver form may be required.


Directions and Parking

Route 4 or Route 5, take Route 235 toward Patuxent River. The main gate (Gate 2) is on Route 235. Go past Gate 2, and turn left into the parking lot of Building 2189 (Frank Knox building). Enter the double doors of Building 2189, and the UMUC office is the first office on your left.


Academic advising is available at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Library Services

A library service area is available at the Academic Center at Largo. Librarians are also available via e-mail, chat, phone and instant message. Testing Services

This location offers the following types of testing services for members of the military and the civilian community with base access:

  • Placement testing for writing and math courses on a walk-in basis.
  • Proctoring services for non-UMUC students.

Security and Access

No request for access is needed for entry onto the base.

Due to recent conditions of heightened security, civilian students taking UMUC classes on military bases may be required to complete a waiver in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act permitting UMUC to provide personal information (such as Social Security Number, address, and telephone number) to the military administration. You may find the FERPA waiver form online.
