Classes and Services

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) offers classes and services at Southern Maryland Higher Education Center (SMHEC).  This location serves transfer students from local community colleges and military and civilian students in the area that need advising or other student services.  The SMHEC is two modern high-tech buildings, equipped with four computer laboratories, 39 classrooms and a 500 seat multi-purpose room.

Services

Directions and Parking

The Center is located on Airport Road, off Route 235, adjacent to the St. Mary's County Airport (about six miles north of Patuxent River Naval Air Station).

Advising

Advising sessions are available on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 301-737-2500 ext. 215 to schedule an appointment. Placement testing for Math and English is available by appointment only.

Computer Labs

Computer facilities are available for student use at the Internet Café located in Bldg. II of the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center.

Library Services

You can access the online catalog of the University System of Maryland, and many full-text Web databases at the SMHEC computer lab. Call 800-888-UMUC (8682), ext. 7209 for more information or visit the UMUC Library.

Textbook Distribution
