Javier Miyares Appointed President of UMUC
The University
System of Maryland Board of Regents announced the appointment of Javier
Miyares as president of UMUC, effective October 1, 2012. Miyares has
served in several leadership capacities since joining the university in
2001; he has served as UMUC's acting president since February 22, 2012.
The
Board's appointment was made on the recommendation of University System
of Maryland Chancellor William E. "Brit" Kirwan, who consulted with UMUC's shared governance councils and Board of Visitors.
“During
his months as acting president, Javier has led UMUC very
effectively. His vision and commitment and his ability to build
consensus make him the ideal person to lead UMUC at this time," said
Kirwan in a press release issued by USM.
