ADELPHI, Md. (Oct 1, 2008) –UMUC will host an open house at the Eastern Shore Higher Education Center Tuesday, October 7, 2–7 p.m. The open house will allow students on the Eastern Shore to learn about the degree programs and scholarship opportunities offered through UMUC at the Eastern Shore Higher Education Center, located on the Chesapeake College Wye Mills campus.

UMUC and Chesapeake College forged an alliance in June to provide Chesapeake College graduates the opportunity to seamlessly transfer to UMUC, which offers bachelor’s degrees in business administration and criminal justice at Chesapeake College. At the open house, students can apply, register, obtain financial aid information and talk with advisors. UMUC also offers transfer scholarships to Chesapeake College graduates with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

One such scholarship recipient is Katy North of Easton, who graduated from Chesapeake in 2007 with an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. North began her bachelor’s degree program through UMUC this fall. “The application and enrollment process went very well. I was amazed that the officials at UMUC evaluated my transcript in less than 48 hours and that 70 of my credits were accepted for transfer,” North said. “The UMUC representatives have been helpful and made the process quick and easy. I already have a UMUC advisor who has been checking in with me to answer all my questions.”
