Awards honor effective use of technology to achieve education goals, testify to UMUC’s position as a pioneer and leader in distance education
ADELPHI, Md. (June 23, 2009) – UMUC announced today that it received three awards from the IMS Global Learning Consortium at the IMS Learning Impact 2009 and Summit on Global Learning Industry Challenges conference in Barcelona, Spain.
The university’s Center for Support of Instruction (CSI) received a Bronze Learning Impact Award for the DE Oracle @ UMUC, an e-zine it produces for faculty. The e-zine—which features articles, technical and teaching tips and links to various resources—was also honored as Best in Category, Faculty Development Network. UMUC’s Graduate School of Management and Technology also received a Best in Category, Online Laboratory award for Online Hands-On Labs in Information Assurance.
UMUC faced stiff competition from a global field of entrants from public and private universities and corporate entities alike. The awards recognize the effective use of technology to improve learning outcomes worldwide.
“We’re pleased and proud to receive these awards from the IMS Global Learning Consortium,” said Kathleen Puckett Ford, UMUC’s director of CSI. “They honor the hard work and accomplishments of many dedicated faculty and staff members, and at the same time, they testify to UMUC’s reputation as a pioneer and acknowledged leader in the field of distance education.”
