ADELPHI, MD (April 22, 2010)—UMUC today announced that it has signed an articulation agreement with Lone Star College System (LSCS) in Texas, the second-largest and fastest-growing community college system in Texas and the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area. The alliance agreement will allow students to seamlessly transfer credits into a variety of bachelor’s degree programs offered by UMUC. Thanks to the university’s award-winning online curriculum, students can pursue a variety of state-of-the-art academic programs from anywhere in the country.

“UMUC is dedicated to partnering with institutions—in Maryland, across the nation and around the world—to offer students flexible and affordable transfer options to pursue a four-year degree,” said UMUC President Susan C. Aldridge. “We are excited to enter into agreements with Lone Star College System and will continue to build relationships with schools across the country to expand educational opportunities for students.”

UMUC has a team dedicated to supporting students who transfer from community colleges in Maryland and nationwide. The articulation agreement with LSCS provides these students with the opportunity to transfer credit into a bachelor’s degree program at UMUC.

Since UMUC established its first alliance agreement in 1996, the university has formed alliances with all 16 of Maryland’s community colleges and with 24 other institutions nationwide. University leaders estimate that more than half of UMUC’s enrolled students transfer from two-year schools.
