UMUC Welcomes Peter C. Young as CIO and Vice President, Information Technology
Young, formerly vice president and CIO of Rosetta Stone, in Arlington, Va., will explore ways that technology can be leveraged to drive and transform distance learning
ADELPHI, MD (May 2, 2011)—University of Maryland University College (UMUC) announced today that it has chosen Peter C. Young as the university’s chief information officer (CIO) and vice president of Information Technology. In this new role, Young will provide strategic direction and leadership in both planning and implementing UMUC’s information systems strategies, policies, and programs. He will also develop and articulate a long-term vision for using technology to drive and transform distance learning, ensuring the integration and coordination of technology and people at UMUC.
Young comes to UMUC with more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience, most recently as vice president and CIO of Rosetta Stone, in Arlington, Va., and prior to that as vice president and CIO of MedImmune in Gaithersburg, Md., where he established, built, and led the company's information technology business for more than 17 years. He was a 2008 CIO&CTO Live! Mid-Atlantic IT Executive of the Year Award finalist and keynote speaker at the 2009 Computerworld SaasCon Conference.

Young holds an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University, in Marion, Ind., and a BA in computer science and economics from Wittenberg University, in Springfield, Ohio.
