Remembrance Day National Roll Call
What will you do to honor the fallen on 11-11-11?
On November, 11, 2011, Veterans Day, UMUC will join universities and colleges around the country in a special event to honor fallen servicemembers—Remembrance Day National Roll Call: Remember the Sacrifices of Ten Years at War.
More than 180 schools in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia have signed up to participate in a simultaneous reading of the names of all Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) casualties. And at precisely 11 a.m. pacific time (2 p.m. eastern time), there will be a nationwide moment of silence to honor the fallen.
Join Us On-site or Online
UMUC's Remembrance Day Roll Call will take place in the UMUC Academic Center at Largo auditorium from 9:30 to 4:30 p.m. It will feature opening and closing commemorative ceremonies, appearances by the Terrapin Battalion of the University of Maryland Army ROTC, and activities for children.
In conjunction with the Remembrance Day National Roll Call, UMUC is hosting an interactive Web page where you can
- Find more details and RSVP for the live event
- Search the database of casualties for a loved one, friend, or coworker
- Post a general message or leave one for a particular servicemember
- View messages posted by others
All messages will also appear on UMUC's Facebook page.
UMUC is also hosting a virtual event in the UMUC 411 online classroom from now until November 15, 2011. There you will find UMUC's history with the military, resources from the Veterans Administration, study groups, a chat feature, and a scrolling list of the names of OEF/OIF casualties.
