March 22, 2012

Dear University of Maryland University College Community Members:

I want to share with you that Dr. Susan Aldridge has announced she is stepping down from the UMUC presidency, effective March 31, 2012. The USM office and UMUC have jointly distributed a news release about this transition of leadership.

I have asked Javier Miyares to continue as acting president. The University System of Maryland Board of Regents and I have great confidence in Javier and UMUC's executive team to continue to move the university forward during the months ahead. Fortunately, UMUC faculty and staff are dedicated professionals, committed to providing the highest level of academic opportunities, experiences, service, and support for students around the world.

As I communicated to you last month, I intend to do everything in my power to make sure UMUC continues on its very impressive trajectory as it serves the needs of its students, our state, and our nation.

Sincerely,

Brit Kirwan
Chancellor
