Board of Regents Is Accepting Nominations for USM Staff Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the Board of Regents' University System of Maryland (USM) Staff Awards, the highest honor bestowed by the Board of Regents for achievements by exempt and nonexempt staff members of USM institutions. The awards are presented to staff members who have demonstrated excellence in one of the following categories:

  • Exceptional Contribution to the Institution and/or Unit to Which the Person Belongs
  • Outstanding Service to Students in an Academic or Residential Environment
  • Extraordinary Public Service to the University or Greater Community
  • Effectiveness and Efficiency

Two awards are given in each category—one to an exempt staff member and one to a nonexempt staff member—for a total of eight awards. Winners will receive a $1,000 award and a plaque to commemorate their achievements. Awards will be announced in June 2012 and formally presented at a Board of Regents meeting in the early fall of 2012.

Nominees must be staff employees (including all staff employees on regular and contingent II status) of a USM institution and have been employed at a USM institution for at least five consecutive years. Nominations must be made with the knowledge and consent of the nominee. CEOs (including chancellors and presidents) and officers (including vice chancellors, vice presidents, provosts, and deans performing an administrative function) are not eligible.
