Joseph V. Bowen, Jr.

Joe Bowen is the Senior Vice President, Operations and Managing Principal of the Washington office of McKissack & McKissack.  McKissack & McKissack is an Architecture and Program and Construction Management firm.  The firm has been part of the signature projects in the District since it’s founding in 1990, including the Walter Washington Convention Center, the Washington National’s Stadium and most recently as the Architect of Record for the Martin Luther King Memorial and the Program Manger for the construction of the memorial.  He serves on the McKissack Board of Directors and is Secretary of the Corporation.

Prior to joining McKissack in 2000 Bowen served UMUC for 30 years in senior leadership positions.  He was responsible for facilities management, capital projects, contract development and real estate development.  Bowen represented UMUC to many internal and external stakeholders including the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce and the Maryland Board of Public Works.  He is a past President of the UMUC Alumni Association and received the Edward A. Parnell Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1998.

Bowen is currently a Director for the University System of Maryland Foundation and the Alumni Association International.  He is an active member of the Federal City Council and the Economic Club of Washington.

Bowen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Business and Public Administration at the University of Maryland College Park, and holds a Master of General Administration and Master of International Management from UMUC.
