Jim Selbe serves as senior vice president for Military Partnerships and Strategic Alliances. In this role, he serves as UMUC's key adviser for the advocacy and support of military, veterans, and their family members. Mr. Selbe also provides executive leadership and strategic planning for key alliances with college and university partners; employers and government agencies; and higher education organizations.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Selbe served as senior vice president, Partnerships, Marketing, and Enrollment Managements. In this role, he provided leadership for the integrated execution and strategic management of the university’s student recruitment, marketing, and enrollment functions; financial aid and student advising; military, university, and corporate partnerships; and career services. Mr. Selbe also served as vice president, Military Partnerships.
Mr. Selbe is a nationally recognized thought leader in the education of military service members, veterans, and their families. Mr. Selbe—a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps—came to UMUC from the American Council on Education (ACE), where he served as director of Military Programs; director of Program Evaluations, and assistant vice president, Lifelong Learning. Before joining ACE, he served as regional director of Military Programs for Old Dominion University and as an adjunct instructor at Central Texas College.
Mr. Selbe is a frequent speaker on topics that include the military students and student veterans, academic credit for prior learning, and innovative approaches to supporting military service members and veterans. He holds a Master of Education in counseling and personnel services from the University of Maryland, College Park and received his Bachelor of Science in management from National Louis University.
