Women in Business: Initiatives, Programs, Opportunities
Through the Women in Business certificate program, UMUC is addressing the needs of female professionals and creating an understanding among all students (men and women) of what it means to be a female professional. Both male and female students earn certificates in Women in Business. UMUC also offers the annual Women's Career Development Conference, and provides other resources for students and alumni looking to expand their career opportunities.
Women in Business Certificate Program
The UMUC Women in Business certificate program prepares both male and female students for supervisory mid- and senior-level management positions in a variety of organizational settings. The certificate focuses on business and management topics related to women and their roles within organizations.
The Women in Business Certificate is conveniently offered online and on-site at these Washington, D.C., metropolitan area locations:
Certificate Requirements
Some students pursue the certificate independently of other academic programs, and others decide to earn this certificate while they are working toward a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.
Four required courses:
- BMGT 312 - Women in Business (3)
- BMGT 313 - Women as Entrepreneurs (3)
- BMGT 314 - Women as Leaders (3)
- BMGT 364 - Management and Organization Theory (3)

Women's Career Development Conference
Female UMUC students, alumni, faculty, and staff can join the conversation on how women can advance and succeed in the workforce at the Women’s Career Development Conference, a yearly networking event sponsored and hosted by the Women in Business Program, the Alumni Association, and Career Services. Conference topics include:
- Networking

- Defining one’s mission
- Entrepreneurship
