Jaime Johnson

Air Force

Jaime Johnson thought she found the perfect school in UMUC. It turns out, she also found a great career at the university, as well as a leadership role as vice president of Distance Learning Membership of UMUC's Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Chapter—the first and only student chapter to feature a distance learning component.

At the age of 85, UMUC alumnus and WWII veteran Theodore von Gerichten did something he thought he'd never get to do—attend his own college graduation.

Erika Sides

Army

Specialist Erika Sides, an active-duty servicemember and UMUC student currently deployed in Iraq, has gone above and beyond her normal call of duty to help the young students of Iraq. Because of her efforts, UMUC’s support, children in her Iraqi school district now have the school supplies they desperately needed to attend school.

Charles Garnett

Coast Guard

Charles Garnett, an undergraduate Computer Science major, has truly loved his UMUC experience. In fact, he loves it so much that he wants to make sure fellow Coast Guards stationed in Baltimore, Maryland, enjoy the same opportunity.

Donald Todorowski

Coast Guard

In many ways, today’s U.S. military functions like a corporation. First Class Petty Officer Donald Todorowski anticipates that his business education from UMUC will help him to excel in his career.

Rebecca Gramlich

Marine Corps

From the Congo to Japan, Sergeant Rebecca Gramlich maintains a 3.6 GPA while pursuing her AA degree, thanks to the flexible online program at UMUC. She credits her UMUC academic advisor with helping her manage her degree plan and stay on track throughout her numerous deployments and duty changes.

David "Scoop" Copeman

Navy

David "Scoop" Copeman, a highly decorated Navy Seal Senior Chief, began his UMUC master’s degree in Computer Technology with an ambitious goal—to graduate and retire within two years.

Majella Stevenson

Navy

A recent education contract with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) made UMUC the first American university to offer on-the-ground undergraduate classes to servicemembers stationed in Iraq. U.S. Naval officer and UMUC adjunct professor Majella Stevenson shares her perspective on teaching ground troops in Qatar.
