Acknowledgments

  • The following acknowledgments were agreed upon before using this tool.
  • This tool only provides a preliminary estimate of your total cost and graduation date; your residency and/or military documentation, official transcripts, and other documentation will be required as part of the admissions process and will determine your actual costs and path to graduation.
  • This tool is not intended for students who plan to attend UMUC Asia or UMUC Europe.
  • This estimate does not represent a final determination, or actual award, of financial assistance and shall not be binding on the Secretary of the Department of Education, UMUC, or the State of Maryland.
  • Tuition rates and fees are subject to change. Additional fees or alternate per credit rates apply for Prior Learning, Workplace Learning, and classes taken at the Shady Grove Center or University System of Maryland at Hagerstown locations. Additional fees may apply.
  • Your estimated graduation date is based on the transfer credit estimate you provided and the schedule indicated but is subject to change based on your official transfer credit evaluation and your progress toward your degree.
  • This tool does not replace the Net Price Calculator, a federal tool intended to help first-time, full-time undergraduate students estimate grant and scholarship aid, as well as living expenses.
  • You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA, and meet the eligibility requirements to receive an actual financial aid award that includes Federal grants or loans under Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
  • This estimate is subject to change.

1Credits in the Program: Credits in the Program does not include courses that do not apply toward degree requirements, such as introductory math courses at the undergraduate level.

2Tuition Per Credit: Tuition is estimated for the entire program based on the current term's rates. Tuition rates are subject to change. Your actual tuition costs will vary based on the applicable future rates. For the in-state rate, you will be required to provide information to verify your eligibility when you apply to UMUC. If UMUC determines that you do not qualify for the in-state rate, you will be assigned to the applicable out-of-state rate. For the military rate, you will be required to provide documentation to verify your eligibility upon admission to UMUC. If you are unable to provide sufficient documentation by the required date, you will be reassigned to the applicable in-state or out-of-state rate. If you or your sponsor separates from the military, your rate will be reassigned to the applicable in-state or out-of-state rate for subsequent semesters.

3Fees: An Application Fee Waiver may be available. Additional fees or alternate per credit rates apply for Prior Learning, Workplace Learning, and classes taken at the Shady Grove Center or University System of Maryland at Hagerstown locations. Additional fees may apply. Fees are subject to change.

4Transfer Credits: The amount of transfer credit you will receive will be determined by UMUC after you apply and your official transcripts have been received. To receive transfer credit, the type of credit must be applicable to your program, as determined by UMUC in your official transfer credit evaluation. If you have earned transfer credits at other institutions, your eligibility for Pell Grants and/or Federal Direct Loans may be less than this estimate, depending on the amount of funds you have already used. The savings related to transfer credits is calculated by adding the estimated tuition rate plus the per credit rate for any applicable technology fees and multiplying that sum by the number of transfer credits you provided.

5Federal Pell Grant: This is not your financial aid award. Your estimated Pell Grant amount represents the total amount that you may receive for this type of grant over the entirety of your program. Your estimated Pell Grant is based on the current Pell Grant amount published by the Department of Education, which changes each academic year. This estimate is also based on the EFC you provided and assumes your EFC remains the same each year; however, your EFC is required to be recalculated each academic year when your FAFSA is submitted. In addition, the Pell Grant amount is estimated without consideration of your prior grant history, which may reduce your actual Pell Grant amount, if any. If you previously received Pell Grants, you may no longer be eligible or may receive an award that is less than the estimated amount. The National Student Loan Data System has information about your Pell Grant history and loan balance for all institutions attended. You will need your Federal PIN to log in to the NSLDS. Federal grants can be used for your tuition, fees, course materials, living expenses, and more. They are need-based financial awards that do not have to repaid. You may qualify for other types of Federal grants.

6Other Tuition Assistance: Students using veterans education benefits should review benefit information and consult with a veterans advisor at 800-939-UMUC to estimate other tuition assistance. Please note that Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition benefits are applied to the remaining balance after other tuition funding sources, including military Tuition Assistance and scholarships, are applied.

7Employer Discount: Proof of employment will be required after admission to secure the discount. The employer discount will be applied after transfer credit savings, if applicable, are subtracted. Employer discounts cannot be combined with the military or in-state tuition rates. Your employer discount is subject to change if you cannot verify employment or separate from your employer.

8Federal Direct Loan: This is not your financial aid award. Your estimated Federal Direct Loan represents the total amount that you may receive for this type of loan over the entirety of your program. Your estimated Federal Direct Loan is based on the current loan amounts published by the Department of Education, which may change in the future. In addition, the Federal Direct Loan amount is estimated without consideration of your prior borrowing history, which may reduce your actual Federal Direct Loan amount, if any. If you previously borrowed money, you may no longer be eligible or may receive an award that is less than the estimated amount. The National Student Loan Data System has information about your Federal student loans and loan balance for all institutions attended. You will need your Federal PIN to log in to the NSLDS. Federal loans can be used for your tuition, fees, course materials, living expenses, and more and require repayment with interest. This estimate reflects your total Federal Direct Loan limit. Up to a certain amount of your loans may be eligible to be subsidized; however, some of these loans may be unsubsidized. Interest can be deferred until after graduation for subsidized loans. Interest begins to accrue immediately on unsubsidized loans. This estimate does not distinguish between subsidized and unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans. You may qualify for additional Federal loans.

9Federal Financial Aid: This is not your financial aid award. Financial aid may only be calculated after admission to UMUC and submission of your FAFSA. Your financial aid award is recalculated annually after submission of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA. You must complete the FAFSA and meet the eligibility requirements to receive an actual financial aid award that includes Federal grants or loans under Title IV of the Higher Education Act. You must meet the university's requirements for satisfactory academic progress to remain eligible for financial aid. Please be aware your actual financial aid award will be impacted if you are concurrently enrolled in another institution and receive Federal financial aid at that school. This estimate does not represent a final determination, or actual award, of financial assistance and shall not be binding on the Secretary of the Department of Education, UMUC, or the State of Maryland.

10Estimated Cost: Estimated costs per semester and per full year are calculated using your estimated total program cost averaged over the estimated number of semesters or years it will take you to complete the program. Your estimated costs are based on the schedule, transfer credit estimate, scholarships, tuition assistance, and employer information you provide. Your estimate is subject to change based on your progress toward your degree, official transfer credit evaluation by UMUC, official financial aid award(s), and eligibility for tuition assistance and employer discounts. If your estimated savings are more than your estimated tuition and fees, your Estimated Total Cost will equal $0.

11Semester Per Year: If you selected not to enroll in every semester, your Estimated Graduation Date will be calculated using the last semester in the financial aid award year in which you could complete your program. The financial aid award year begins in summer and ends in spring. Your actual graduation date could be earlier if you enroll in all semesters in which your program is available.

12Estimated Graduation Date: Your Estimated Graduation Date is based on the expected start date, transfer credit estimate, and schedule you provided but is subject to change based on when you enroll, your official transfer credit evaluation by UMUC, and your progress toward your degree.
