Nova: How do I connect to the UNIX servers? (Mac or Linux)


Follow the steps below to connect to Nova UNIX servers using the built-in terminal client on your Macintosh or Linux computer. For Windows instructions, view Nova: How do I connect to the UNIX servers? (Windows)

    1. Open a terminal:
    • On a Mac, click Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities Terminal.
    • Using Linux, click Applications Accessories Terminal.


    2. After opening a terminal window as described above, connect to the following command using the syntax: $ ssh[username]@Nova.umuc.edu where your [username] is your userid. For example, if assigned the cm325c01 userid, you would type: $ ssh cm325c01@nova.umuc.edu 
     
    3.Enter your Nova account password.

    4.If prompted for Terminal Type? [vt100], press Enter to accept the default vt100 type.

     
    5. When logging into your account for the first time, you will be prompted to accept a security certificate. You will not be able to access your account until the security policy is accepted. Please accept it by typing the word "accept" at the prompt.
