LEO: How Do I - Create a Calculated Grade Item

  1. From the Course Home page, click the My Tools drop down menu and select Grades
  2. On the Manage Grades tab, click New and select Item from the drop down menu. 
  3. Click the Calculated link. 
  4. Enter the Name for the grade, and if applicable, a Short Name (displayed in grade book) and Description
  5. To make the description available to users, select Allow users to view grade item description.
  6. If you want users' grades to be able to exceed the total value of the item, select Can Exceed.
  7. Select the Grade Scheme from the drop down menu. 
  8. In the Calculation section, select the check boxes beside the Grade Items you want to include in the calculation.
  9. Click Add Rubric to add a rubric, or click the Create Rubric in New Window link to create a new rubric.
  10. In the Display Options section, under Student View, select one of more of the following options if applicable:
    • Display class average to users 
    • Display grade distribution to users
    • Override display options for this item. If selected, you may select one or more of the following:
      • Points grade
      • Grade scheme symbol
      • Grade scheme color
  11. If you want to view grade information for this item differently from other items in the grade book, select Override display options for this item
  12. Click Save and CloseSave and New, or Save
