LEO: How Do I - Create a Formula Grade Item

  1. From the Course Home page, click the My Tools drop down menu and select Grades
  2. Under the Manage Grades tab, click New and select Item from the drop down menu. 
  3. Click the Formula link. 
  4. Enter a Name for the grade item.
  5. Enter a Short Name (optional) to display in the grade book.
  6. Enter a Description (optional) of the grade item.
  7. If you want to make the description available to users, select Allow users to view grade item description.
  8. Under Maximum Points, enter the desired maximum grade value.
  9. Click Edit Using the Formula Editor to define a calculation formula.
  10. Select the Can Exceed check box if you want to allow users' grades to exceed the maximum point specified for the item. 
  11. Select a Grade Scheme from the drop down menu. 
  12. To add a rubric click Add Rubric or Create Rubric in New Window
  13. Under Display Options, select one or more of the follow Student View options if applicable. 
    • Display class average to users
    • Display grade distribution to users
    • Override display options for this item. If selected, select one or more of the following:
      • Points grade
      • Grade scheme symbol
      • Grade scheme color
  14. If you want to view grade information for this item differently from other items in the grade book, select Override display options for this item
  15. Click Save and Close, Save and New, or Save.
