LEO: How do I create a numeric grade item? (Faculty)

  1. From the Course Home page, click My Tools and select Grades from the drop down menu. 
  2. On the Manage Grades page, click New and select Item from the drop down menu. 
  3. Select Numeric.
  4. Enter the grade Name and a Short Name (optional) to display in the grade book. 
  5. To associate the grade item with a category, select a category from the Category drop-down list or click New Category
  6. Enter a Description of the grade item. To make the description available to students, select Allow users to view grade item description.
  7. Enter a grade value in the Maximum Points field.
  8. Select Can Exceed to allow grades to exceed the maximum points specified for the item. 
  9. Select Bonus if you want the item to be counted as a bonus item. Note: Bonus items are not counted towards the maximum points for a category or final grade. You must select the Can Exceed and Bonus check boxes to allow students' grades to exceed the maximum points specified.
  10. To allow a grade item to be excluded from the final grade calculation, select Exclude from Final Grade Calculation.
  11. Select a Grade Scheme to associate with the item.
  12. To add a Rubric, click Add Rubric or Create Rubric in New Window
  13. Under Display Options, if applicable, select one or more of the following:
    • Display class average to users: Allows users to see the class average on the item.
    • Display grade distribution to users: Allow users to see a graph showing how grades were distributed between different percentiles.
    • Override display options for this item: Grades users can view grade information for this item differently from other items in the grade book. 
  14. Click Save and CloseSave and New, or Save.
