LEO: How Do I - Create a Grade Book Category

  1. From the Course Home page, click My Tools and select Grades from the drop down menu.
  2. On the Manage Grades page, click New and select Category from the drop down menu.
  3. Type a Name for the category and enter a Short Name (optional) to display in the grade book.
  4. To enter a Description, click Show Description. Select the Allow users to view description check box if you want to make the category description available to users.
  5. Under Grading, if applicable, you can select the following:
    • Can Exceed: Users grades for the category will be able to exceed the maximum value.
    • Exclude from Final Grade Calculation: The grade category will be excluded from the final grade calculation. 
    • Distribution: Will allow all items in the category to be work the same amount. 
  6. If applicable, you may select the following Display Options:
    • Display class average to users: Allows users to see the class average on the item.
    • Display grade distribution to users: Allow user to see a graph showing how grades were distributed between difference percentiles. 
    • Override display options for this item:  Allow graded users to view grade information for this item differently from other items in the grade book. 
  7. Click Save and CloseSave and New, or Save
