Email: How do I sync Google Mail with Microsoft Outlook?

Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GASMO) allows you to use the Microsoft Outlook email client to access your University of Maryland University College Google Apps email account from your computer.
If you are using a personal computer, click here to download and install the tool; then go to step 2. If you are using a University of Maryland University College computer, the software is already installed.

The first time you run this synchronization may take some time if you have a large number of email messages. Please be prepared to allow the initial synchronization to run from start to finish without interruptions.

Step 1: From the Windows Start menu, select Google Apps Sync, and then select Set up a Google Apps Sync user.

Step 2: Next, you will be prompted to sign in to your University of Maryland University College Google Apps account. Signing in here lets Google Apps Sync connect to your account to get ready for importing and synchronization. You only have to do this once as long as you check the Remember me box.
Type your email address in the Email address field, then select No, help me sign-in. Check the Remember me box and then select Continue.

Outlook should automatically open. Click it to open and continue to Step 6.
Step 6: Go back to the Set up Google Apps Sync window and click Create Profile.
Do not select any of the options such as import data from an existing profile or Send crash reports to Google, as they will cause the synchronization and profile creation to fail.

Step 7: Click Start Microsoft Outlook.

Step 8: Next, you will be prompted to create a Google Apps profile for use in Outlook.
Click OK to accept the default Profile Name. It should read – Google Apps OR – Google Apps.

Step 9: Microsoft Outlook will open and you will see at least one email in the inbox.
Please note the synchronization status box will open and it will download all of your University of Maryland University College Google email, contacts, calendar, address book and notes.

Step 10: If you notice your labels (folders) are not in the same order as you see them when logged into the University of Maryland University College Google apps web interface, just click on the small arrow beside Google Apps – FirstName.LastName@... and then select the arrow again. This will force the labels (folders) to sort in the correct order

Step 11: You can choose to Close the Sync window as it will continue to run in the background.
