Academic Honors: Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirements

Graduation honors are conferred on bachelor's degree recipients only.

In order to be eligible for graduation honors, you must be a bachelor's degree candidate, have at least a 3.80 cumulative grade point average, and have completed at least 30 credits of coursework at University of Maryland University College for which a letter grade and quality points were assigned. For honors to be conferred with a second bachelor’s degree, the student is required to have a total of 30 new University of Maryland University College credits and the requisite GPA.

Please note the honors designations based on GPA:

  • Cum Laude:  GPA 3.800-3.900
  • Magna Cum Laude: GPA 3.901-3.999
  • Summa Cum Laude: GPA 4.0
