Parent PLUS Loans: How Long Do I Have to Repay a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan?

Question: How Long Do I Have to Repay a Direct Parent PLUS Loan?

Answer: Generally, you'll have from 10 to 25 years to repay your loan, depending on the repayment plan you chose. You can choose a repayment plan; however, if you do not choose a repayment plan, the US Department of Education will place you on the Standard Repayment Plan, with fixed monthly payments for up to 10 years. Most Direct Loan borrowers choose to stay with the Standard Repayment Plan, but there are other options for borrowers who may need more time to repay, or those who need to make lower payments at the beginning of the repayment period.

Addendum: The Direct Loan Servicing Center no longer services Federal Direct Loans. The US Department of Education has transferred student's loans to other federal loan service providers. Borrowers can locate and contact their
