Topic: Tuition Waiver for AstraZeneca/MedImmune Employees and Their Family Members
The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of regents Board of Regents has passed a resolution that allows students to be classified as in-state if they moved to Maryland specifically because they or their family members are employed by a company called AstraZeneca/MedImmune.
It is important to note that the 12 month time period does NOT need to be met for any of the residency requirements.
The following stipulations apply to these students:
they must be residing in the state of Maryland
if they are licensed to drive and/or own a motor vehicle, these items/privileges must have been transferred to Maryland
if they are employed, they must have switched their tax withholding information to Maryland
These students will identify themselves by choosing the AstraZeneca/MedImmune value from the drop down list on the eApp of Corporate or Special Programs (click on Apply Now and then select Begin Your Application).
If a student chooses that value, he or she will automatically be assigned to the AstraZeneca/MedImmune student group and assigned a checklist item that indicates documentation from AstraZeneca/MedImmune must be submitted to the Residency Office to verify that the student or his/her family member is employed by that company.
When the Residency Office receives this documentation, we will confirm that the student meets the criteria listed above. If so, we will change the student to in-state residency status and choose the AstraZeneca/MedImmune tuition residency exception to display the reason the student was classified as in-state.
