It's that exciting time of year: You've opened an e-mail or letter and found an invitation to join an honor society. Congratulations!

Honor societies are national organizations that celebrate students' academic achievements. University of Maryland University College honor society chapters have specific eligibility requirements, including GPA, that students must meet in order to join. UMUC maintains an updated listing of honor society chapters and their eligibility requirements.

Be aware that outside groups calling themselves honor societies will occasionally try to recruit UMUC students. These groups do not require high academic standards for membership and do not have any representation at UMUC. If you receive an invitation, we encourage you to make sure the honor society is one of UMUC's recognized chapters. You can do this by viewing our updated listing of honor society chapters or contacting the Student Success department by e-mail at or by phone at 240-684-2899.
