Maryland High School Juried Art Exhibition

Join the UMUC community to celebrate and examine selected works of art from the next generation of visual artists. Featuring works in all mediums by high school artists from Maryland, the Maryland High School Juried Art Exhibition is designed to bring attention to the talents of local high school students and to support those students as they transition to the next level of their artistic careers. The exhibition showcases 55 pieces chosen by jurors from nearly 200 submissions to represent the finest student artwork from across the state. Winners will be announced and awards will be presented for first place, second place, third place, and honorable mention.

Jurors for the Exhibition

  • Joan Bevelaqua, Artist and Collegiate Professor, UMUC
  • Christopher Harrington, Artist and Chair, Department of Fine Arts, University of Maryland Eastern Shore
  • Preston Sampson, Artist


First-Place Award

  • $5,000 cash award ($1,000 to the student, $4,000 to the school arts program or to the general operating fund if there is no arts program)
  • Poster of the award-winning artwork distributed to Maryland schools
  • Trophy

Second-Place Award

  • $2,500 cash award ($500 to the student, $2,000 to the school)
  • Plaque

Third-Place Award

  • $1,000 cash award ($250 to the student, $750 to the school)
  • Certificate

Fourth- and Fifth-Place Awards (Honorable Mention)

  • Red ribbon recognition on the artwork during the run of the exhibition
  • Certificate
