Textbooks and Course Materials
At UMUC, we are committed to saving you time and money by reducing or eliminating the need to purchase textbooks and other course materials.
Course Materials for Undergraduate Classes
At UMUC, you can complete most undergraduate degrees without purchasing textbooks thanks to electronic resources that are available at no cost, are immediately available through your online classroom, and are always up to date.
Depending on the course, these open educational resources may include electronic textbooks, lectures, websites, and selected documents and media. Program chairs and faculty members have customized these materials to be more relevant to your course and to include the latest industry information.
Some courses do require the use of specific software or content that cannot be accessed for free. When you register for a course, check the required course materials listed in the Interactive Undergraduate Schedule of Classes to determine whether you will need to purchase any course materials.
Course Materials for Graduate Classes
Starting in fall 2016, most graduate textbooks will be replaced with no-cost electronic resources. With the exception of some courses that require the use of specific software or content that cannot be accessed for free, you will not need to purchase any course materials. Between now and then, you may need to purchase textbooks or course materials for your graduate courses using the following steps:
Find each of your courses in the Graduate Schedule of Classes, and then select the "Course Materials" link for each course to determine which books and class materials you'll need.
Order your books through our online bookstore, MBS Direct, which guarantees the availability of new and used inventory, shopping discounts for online orders, no sales tax, and an easy return and buyback program.
